Forensic Evaluations
Forensic evaluations involve the application of psychological knowledge and methods to help answer legal questions. These evaluations focus on specific legal questions and tailor the evaluation and assessment processes to answering those questions for the retaining party (e.g., the court, attorney, etc.). These evaluations can assist in determining things like:

Competency to Stand Trial
Criminal Responsibility/Capacity to Conform Conduct
Sexual or Violence Risk
Malingering
Waiver to Adult Court

Forensic evaluations include a thorough clinical interview, a comprehensive review of records, collateral data, relevant psychological tests, risk assessment measures and relevant case law as applicable.
The results are used in making decisions and/or recommendations in legal matters.
Testimony regarding the evaluation is not uncommon.
Clinical Evaluations
Comprehensive psychological evaluations involve the assessment of cognitive processes; academic and adaptive functioning; and social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. These evaluations can assist in determining:

Executive functioning abilities
General intellectual abilities or the presence of a learning disability
Academic strengths and weaknesses
Insights into personality styles
The severity of psychological symptoms
Root causes of socio-emotional problems
The presence of positive or negative coping styles
Information about thought processes
Reasons for aggressive behavior

Psychological evaluations typically include a thorough clinical interview; a review of collateral information (e.g., academic, medical, psychological, etc.); administration of tests, surveys, or questionnaires; use of observational data; and interviews with others who may know about you.

The results of the evaluation provide specific information about strengths and weaknesses across a wide range of domains, diagnostic clarification, and assist in making treatment recommendations.
